Lamezia Terme – The countdown has officially begun for the fourth of the nine stages of the 2024 national tour of Cuore Mediterraneo, the initiative promoted by Ricrea, the National Consortium for the Recycling and Recovery of Steel Packaging which is part of the Conai system .

From packed lunches on the beach to food supplies for boat galleys or camping, steel packaging is the protagonist of summer days: in the next few days, special correspondent Alice will be in Lamezia Terme to meet bathers and invite them to discover the benefits of separate waste collection, as well as the value of recycling fruit and vegetable jars, tins, barrels, milk, buckets, cans, crown caps and steel closures, a material that is 100% infinitely recycled. The stages of Cuore Mediterraneo along the country will also be an opportunity to make known the virtuous data on the recovery and recycling of steel packaging in Italy: in 2023 an average of 4.8 kg per inhabitant was collected, and 428,043 tonnes sent for recycling (+2% compared to the previous year). With a recycling rate equal to 87.8% of what was released for consumption (487,548 tonnes), the 70% target set for 2025 and the 80% target set for 2030 by the European Union were exceeded.
