PORDENONE – The Municipality of Pordenone, which took charge of organizing the funeral of the man who died alone and without the help of his relatives in mid-May, will bring the case before the judge. The intention, in fact, is to ask the victim’s family members to compensate for what in all respects was damage to the municipal administration. Not so economically relevant, but still so. In the meantime, however, the race for solidarity continues. And the woman from Padua who had offered to pay for the funeral of the deceased was also joined by an entrepreneur from Pordenone who contacted the councilor Walter De Bortoli presenting the same offer.
THE ACTION
The funeral of the man who died in mid-May in Pordenone was celebrated last Friday. «And we gave this person a worthy burial in one of the cemeteries of our town – explained the municipal councilor Walter De Bortoli -. For the moment – he added – the costs are borne by the Municipality (we are talking about no more than 500 euros, ed.) but we continue with the support of the law to obtain reimbursement. The judge – it is the announcement – will decide who will really have to pay”. We will therefore go through legal proceedings, because the victim’s family – contacted – does not appear to have anything at all and there is also an inheritance involved. Therefore, according to the Municipality, there would be every possibility of obtaining reimbursement for the organization of the man’s funeral and for the burial of his body. And De Bortoli confirms: «We are thinking of appealing to the judgment of a judge».
THE RACE
In the meantime, however, signs of solidarity are multiplying. «We will certainly contact the woman from Padua who offered to “donate” the funeral – councilor Walter De Bortoli always guaranteed. And we will thank you, because it is a gesture that highlights people’s big hearts. In these same hours, however, a well-known Pordenone entrepreneur came forward with the same type of proposal. And it is an equally splendid gesture.”

THE FACTS
The email, sent in certified email format and therefore equivalent to an official document in the form of a registered letter, arrived at the Municipality of Pordenone from the Western Friuli Health Authority. The date is May 24th, so practically a month ago. The man, however, had died before. In detail, the doctor’s report on duty shows the date of 16 May, therefore eight days earlier than the communication from the health authority directed to the offices of the Municipality of Pordenone. The technical time to wait for someone to come to “claim” the deceased. Maybe a family member. But it wasn’t like that at all, because no one knocked on the door of the Santa Maria degli Angeli hospital in Pordenone. The body, housed in the mortuary cells of the city health facility, “has not been claimed by any relative and the intervention of the Municipal Administration is therefore requested to identify any family members and, failing that, to take charge of the related funeral”, we read in the official note. The deceased had a support administrator who ceased his work with the death of the beneficiary given the rejection of the request for extension by the guardianship judge of the Pordenone court.
