Florence, 65-year-old nurse found dead at home: murder hypothesis

A 65 year old Peruvian woman she was found dead on Monday morning – 24 June – at dawn in her home, a rent-controlled apartment in via Niccolò da Tolentino near the Careggi hospital. The woman was on her bed, some bruises were found on her body, for this reason the possibility of murder is not excluded but to be certain we must wait for the results of the medical examiner who is still on site with the forensic police and the flying squad. Prosecutor Giacomo Pestelli is coordinating the investigations. The woman’s name was Maria Teresa Flores Chavez and was a nurse in two health facilities in the area.

The alarm was given to 118 this morning around 5.30 by a man neighbor called by his nephew of the woman who lived with her.

The boy told the police that he returned at that time and found a man in the house with whom he had a fight, suffering several bruises. Because of this the seventeen-year-old has now been taken to Careggi hospital where he will undergo a medical examination before being questioned by investigators. There were no signs of an infringement on the door of the house on the first floor but when the police arrived a window was found open.

The young man was interviewed for a long time at the police station. The young man, 17 years old, actually reported that having met a thief when he returned home, however checks on its reconstruction are underway. The house, as part of an investigation in which the hypothesis of murder is being taken into consideration, was seized by the police.
