A few minutes ago Saverio Sticchi Damiani, president of Leccepresented the project for the new one sports Center of the Lecce Sports Union. Here are his words in the splendid location of Martignano:
I thank everyone for this wonderful welcome and for all this warmth. At this moment, while we are here to celebrate this marriage between the Unione Sportiva Lecce and the municipality of Martignano, we have launched a clear message on our social networks: this evening we have reached a first appointment with the history of this club.
Lecce had never had its own sports center and for us this is a gigantic achievement.
Thanks to everyone’s work
When Corvino and I met for the first time we didn’t just talk about sporting results but also about a common dream and that dream was the sports centre.
Building a proprietary sports center demonstrates that the company is doing well, because it can afford the luxury of taking such a step. We enjoy good health and I say this as president.
The club has grown a lot in these 5 years thanks to the administrative and technical management of the club. In recent days we have seen our Hjulmand stand out in a big way at Euro 2024 and do you think that a piece of Hjulmand’s proceeds will end up in this sports center.
Enlightened travel companions
Starting from this pillar I had enlightened travel companions. I cannot fail to mention our general manager Mercadante, who believed so much in this project, just as I cannot fail to mention our administrator Mencucci, who, thanks to good management of the accounts, allowed us to carry out this work.
And then as a travel companion I also talk about the lawyer Zinnari, and then the architect we chose, Tuscan but a great Lecce fan. On this journey we met an enlightened administration. Even in the transition between the two mayors, I must say that both proved to be passionate about this project right from the start.
A cutting-edge sports center
We, among other things, want to create a cutting-edge sports center that will be talked about throughout Italy. It will be our flagship. Below Napoli in Serie A there is only Lecce and how do we respond? By building a proprietary sports center, giving a powerful message to everyone.
Why Martignano
The choice of Martignano does not derive from the fact that there were no other possibilities because I assure you that the whole of Salento wanted to host our sports center. We chose this place because these people made us love this area and we wanted to stay in the center of Salento, in the center of Salento Greece and I am proud of this.
Lecce is the team of the whole of Salento, at the stadium the presence of fans from the province represents a majority.
