EAV vehicle cleaning workers, open letter to the Governor of the Campania Region

we publish the open letter of the OR.SA Autoferro Trasporti union regarding the workers assigned to cleaning services on EAV vehicles

Dear Mr. President of the Campania Region, Hon. Vincenzo De Luca,

we take advantage of your presence at the inauguration of the new Circumvesuviana station in Naples Porta Nolana to send you an open letter.

In this beautiful station there is also our effort, there is our sweat to make it shine as it deserves and we will still be there to preserve it like this for the next few years.

We have been working for over 20 years to keep all the work environments of this large company clean but… even though it is now honorary railway workerswe belong to another family…

We belong to “tenders” and, every time there is a tender for the concession of cleaning services we tremble because we know well that, with the logic of maximum discount, the company that wins the tender will then try to “optimize” its costs by modifying, and therefore worsening, our work organisation.

Many of us, over 50 years of age, still have a part-time contract of 20 hours per week, which is equivalent to half our salary (already not significant in itself) and which will then correspond to a starvation pension. To reach their workplace, many people have to travel up to 2 hours (4 there and back), with the related expenses…

Therefore, although we belong to the same “contracting” family, we have different working and pay conditions within us, depending on the railway line we work on, we also have those who receive meal vouchers and those who don’t, in short, there are “children and stepchildren.”

What do we ask you? Simply that the EAV internalizes the work of cleaning trains, offices, stations, buses and infrastructures, that you recognize us as “supplementary” railway workers and that you finally make us officially become part of this large family for which we have always worked and which we have always looked at with the hope that one day it could become ours too.

We ask you to work hard because by internalizing work and workers we are convinced that EAV would not only save in economic terms but would acquire a group of highly motivated and above all already trained and prepared people to face any future challenges the company might face.

Thank you.
