Angera: 15 licenses withdrawn in one night for drunk driving

Over the weekend, the Carabinieri of Gallarate intensified checks on the roads of Lake Maggiore, withdrawing 15 licenses and reporting 8 people for driving while intoxicated

ANGERA – Over the past weekend, the Carabinieri of the Gallarate Company intensified checks along the provincial roads that connect the municipalities overlooking the Lombardy side of the Lake Maggiore. The operation, aimed at countering the so-called “Saturday night massacres”, saw a notable deployment of forces, with particular attention from the Carabinieri of the Angera station. The intervention led to significant results, highlighting a worrying trend towards alcohol abuse among drivers.

Numbers and results of the operation

During the checks, which involved 75 people and 51 vehicles, the authorities found a significant percentage of drivers who had gotten behind the wheel after having raised their elbows. Eight people were charged with driving while intoxicated, with blood alcohol levels well above the legal limits, oscillating between 1.8 and 1.93 grams per liter. Other seven administrative violations were recorded for driving with a blood alcohol level between 0.5 and 0.8 grams per liter, highlighting an alarming phenomenon of underestimation of the risks linked to alcohol while driving.

Overall, the Carabinieri confiscated 15 driving licenses and contested administrative sanctions for a total of over 3,000 euros.

The police have announced that checks will continue in the coming weeks, with a further strengthening of patrols in the areas at greatest risk. The aim is not only to crack down, but also to educate drivers on the risks associated with driving under the influence of alcohol, promoting responsible behavior and a culture of road safety.
