The new Verona underpass opened! The new road system begins

The conclusion of the work, which is part of the interventions for the new trolleybus, had been postponed compared to the initial partial opening scheduled for Vinitaly. As announced in the past few days, the final asphalting work arrived last week.

Now it will take a few more days to restore traffic. In fact, since the works started a year ago, a one-way “circulatory ring” has been active between Porta Palio and Porta Nuova.

The work and the new road system

The new The underpass can only be used by private vehicles, including motorcycles and mopedslocal public transport in fact uses the preferential lanes on the surface.

You can enter Via Faccioleaving Breccia Cappuccini behind, or on the opposite side in via Galliano towards via Faccio.

Side away I doafter having covered the first stretch, you arrive at the traffic light, after which you can choose to go straight or take the ramp on the right exiting towards Porta Palio and towards the entrance to T4-T9.

Same on the Via Galliano side. Anyone entering the underpass can continue until the exit in via Faccio or go up the ramp on the right towards viale del Lavoro.

Yes it can also enter the underpass from the two median rampsone at the height of New door and the other at the exit of T4-T9 and the station.

In the next days the direction of travel on the Oriani ring road also changes: the stretch between Porta Nuova and via Città di Nimes will become two-way, while the stretch between Porta Palio and via Città di Nimes will be one-way towards via Città di Nimes and piazza Renato Simoni (in contrast to last year. Phases of opening

Starting from Monday 24 June from 9.30am, past peak traffic timewe will proceed with the gradual opening of the new underpass. They are mainly expected three phases which within a working week will bring the city of Verona to the new road system.

The opening to traffic will take place in the presence of the Verona Local Police officers who will provide information and assistance for motoristsso as to immediately allow regular transit, thus returning to the pre-construction road system.

PHASE 1

From Monday 24 June from 9.30am

Opening of the underpass from Porta Palio to Via Faccio. It doesn’t change the circulation.
Opening of exit T4-T9 towards Porta Palio
Opening of the north-west underpass ramp towards Porta Palio. Traffic on via Cardinale and via Oriani will remain as current.
Lane reversal west of Porta Nuova with final opening to traffic. Access to the underpass from Norta Nuova. Traffic on via Cardinale and via Oriani will remain as current.

PHASE 2

Opening of the southern ramps of the underpass (access from the west and exit to the east)
Opening of the south ramp access from the station.
Closure to private traffic on Via Cardinale. Traffic on via Oriani will remain as it is today.
