Tourist injured on cruise, Coast Guard intervenes

GENOA, 23 JUNE – Coast Guard personnel were involved in a rescue operation for an Italian tourist who was injured in a fall while leaving for a cruise on board the Costa Toscana ship which was sailing about 5 miles from the coast after leaving the port of Savona with destination Marseille. After the fall the woman suffered symptoms of head trauma. In light of what was found, the on-board doctor, through the International Radio Medical Center, requested that he be transferred from the ship for hospitalization. The rescue request was received by the Savona Coast Guard Operations Room which ordered the CP863 patrol boat to be sent to the scene, on which, in the meantime, the White Cross personnel, previously alerted by the same Maritime Authority, were also embarked. Once the transhipment was completed, the patrol boat arrived at the dock and the patient, accompanied by a family member, was immediately visited by the 118 medical staff, who arrived on site to carry out a preliminary diagnosis. Once the conditions were stabilized and the checks were completed, the woman, who remained conscious during the operations, was transported to the emergency room in Savona. (HANDLE).
