These are the systems in the process of being approved, including photovoltaic and wind power, not to mention small-sized systems

VITERBO – The production of electricity from renewable sources in Tuscia could soon approach that of the Civitavecchia power plant which, with three 660 megawatt generators, feeds 1.9 gigawatts of electricity into the line. The amount of energy that will in fact be produced by photovoltaic and wind power plants that are currently in the process of being approved would be 1,318 gigawatts, more than two thirds that of the peak power plant on the Lazio coast, without even counting the small-sized and family-run plants. on the roofs of houses and buildings, of companies.

The question then arises spontaneously: will it be possible, if the systems are approved, to disconnect the power plant and live on renewable energy? The answer is not clear at the moment, but there are conflicting opinions.

‘The electricity produced by RES is a lot, but it is an intermittent production’ explains Adrian Moss, president of Italia Nostra VIterbo ‘it does not guarantee the consistency that families and companies need. During the night, on cloudy days for example, if there is no wind. The only suitable solution for clean production is nuclear power. Furthermore, there is no mention of the climate damage caused by renewable sources: it is the green paradox. There are studies that show that where there are many wind turbines, the humidity of the air, the amount of rain, the wind changes.

‘Currently the European trend is towards renewable sources such as photovoltaic and wind power’ explains the engineer. Giovanni De Caro, national delegate of AIOS (Association of Joint Civil Protection Security Observers) ‘and the production is good, the only thing is that there are technologies that are certainly better performing than filling thousands of hectares of panels. Solar Concentration Plants, for example, would be able to produce much more in limited spaces. Production from RES is currently very good, but it is good for SMEs or family plants, land cannot be filled with panels.’
