In a context of exasperated commiseration and, unfortunately, real observation of the problems that afflict Catania and the province from every point of view, the message launched by the sports clubs that insist on the territory and that collect exciting results, often also showcasing talents, is extraordinary local sportspeople. True excellences that make the city on the slopes of Etna one of the most successful at a national level. Thanks to important athletes and organized and – it must be said – virtuous clubs, capable of creating multi-year programmes, focusing on young people and at the same time also achieving prestigious results at the highest levels. Not just football, there are in fact many sports practiced.
The last example is that of Meta Catania. The 5-a-side football team of owner Enrico Musumeci, after many years of good level in the top futsal series (with a championship final lost a few years ago) managed to bring the title to Catania by overcoming Napoli in the Final. This success is accompanied by the usual triumphs of Ekipe Orizzonte, which also this year beat its historic rival: Plebiscito Padova. The discipline changes, from five-a-side football to water polo, but the winning mentality does not change and above all the commitment of those who work every day does not change so that it is possible to work on high quality standards. The same score also when it comes to canoe polo and the Polisportiva Canottieri Catania or the beachers of President Giuseppe Bosco’s Catania Beach Soccer. Saturnia Volley played a Super League championship in men’s volleyball, despite being relegated, but by playing among the greats it put the city on display and gave value to its work.
In this case, some of the organizations that have managed to do better are mentioned (many others would deserve mention, the list would become very long), other sports clubs also work equally well, perhaps not winning but managing to do an extraordinary job from the point of view of sporting and social, above all. Just think of the commendable passion of the Briganti in Librino, in rugby, but it is only one of the possible examples. In individual sports the music does not change, even in this field Catania knows how to stand out.
These successes act as a megaphone for hard-working Catania who believe in their potential. A beautiful city page that deserves to be celebrated. The investments, including economic ones, of those who started these sporting projects and are now reaping the benefits are important. Does sport accompany the relaunch of Catania? It is not a utopia, many have always strongly supported it.
