‘Legitimate questions to Emiliano, solidarity with colleagues’
“It is not the job of politicians to decide what should be published or broadcast by a newspaper. In a democratic country, where freedom and pluralism of information are guaranteed by the Constitution; it should be a given. Yet, more than an exception. pitch invasion attempts are becoming the rule. The last discordant note, in order of time, comes from PD deputy Claudio Stefanazzi. With inquisitorial and vaguely intimidating tones, he lashed out at his Telerama colleagues, guilty, according to him, of having dared to give an account of a meeting between President Michele Emiliano and the managers of the Lecce Local Health Authority, on the day before the run-off vote”. Assostampa Puglia underlines this, adding that “in a sort of delirium of omnipotence, the Honorable Stefanazzi went so far as to state that, since it was a confidential meeting, Telerama colleagues had no right to deal with it. This statement is typical of those who consider newspapers something similar to letterboxes, which should limit themselves to giving an account of the showgirls arriving from party secretaries, individual parliamentarians or the staff of local administrators”. According to the Apulian press association, “the Honorable Stefanazzi, like many of his colleagues regardless of political affiliation, forgets that freedom of the press and right to report, guaranteed by the Constitution, mean autonomy and independence in the choice of news to publish. There is no doubt that the meeting of the President of the Region with the managers of the Local Health Authority was news. Telerama colleagues did well – concludes the note – in putting it on the air, regardless of the warnings of the Honorable Stefanazzi.
