The thirty-fourth edition of the “Vir Singulari Virtute praeditus Ugo Di Prima” award for the financial year 2023/24 featured Peppe Tringali. For the Gela Kiwanis club chaired by Francesco Di Silvestre, and not only that, the Gela musician is ‘a man gifted with extraordinary virtue’ in the musical field.

The Kiwanis award was created in 1989 with the aim of recognizing the professional merits of Gela’s children in various fields. The first was assigned to Engineer Moscato from Gelato, then president of Eni.

The 2023/24 president Di Silvestre Francesco and the secretary Pippo Abbate were awarded the Peppe Tringali award.

Present at the ceremony were the Governor of Kiwanis Italy Francesco Garaffa, the Lieutenant of the V Kiwanis Division Antonio Caglia’.

Peppe Tringali is 49 years old. Drummer, percussionist, composer and arranger.

He graduated in percussion in 2002, with top marks from the “V. Bellini” of Catania. In 2007 he obtained a specialist degree cum laude in the same institute, in Musical Disciplines, Interpretative-compositional address. In 2011, you obtained another degree with 110 cum laude in the two-year specialist course in Jazz arrangement and composition at the “A. Corelli” of Messina.

In 2000 and 2001, he played for Rai 2 in a space dedicated to young musical talents as a solo drummer.

His concert activity leads him to deal, both as a drummer and as a percussionist, with many musical genres within the most varied formations: percussion ensemble, chamber quartet, symphony orchestra, jazz combo, big band, orchestra and pop band .

He won the National Arts Award, organized by the MIUR, in 2005 for the jazz music section and in 2007 for chamber music.

He specializes in modern music, he delves into the drum language of pop, fusion and in particular jazz, participating in various masterclasses under the guidance of Dave Weckl, Peter Erskine, Adam Nussbaum, Maurizio dei Lazzaretti, Lele Melotti.

He has collaborated steadily since 2007 with the American singer Amii Stewart and since 2016 with the singer Mario Venuti.

He has played at the most prestigious theaters in Italy such as the Bluenote in Milan and Parco della Musica in Rome (to name just a few) and abroad: Japan, United States, Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates.

Currently, in addition to his concert activity at the most prestigious jazz festivals, he is the founder, together with Alberto Fidone and Seby Burgio, of the “Urban Fabula” trio. The group, with several recordings and prestigious collaborations under its belt, has been the winner of the most prestigious competitions: critics’ prize at the European Jazz Contest, “Pippo Ardini” prize in the city of Palermo, “National Competition City of Treviglio – New Talents prize” Jazz, “Paolo Randazzo” Music Prize, City of Philadelphia European Music Competition – “Paolo Serrao” Special Prize, Baronissi Jazz Contest and Barga Jazz Contest. Furthermore Urban Fabula constitutes the rhythmic section of the Mediterranean Jazz Orchestra.

He has played with: Amii Stewart, Mario Venuti, Fabrizio Bosso, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Franco Cerri, Javier Girotto, Rosario Giuliani, Stefano di Battista, Steve Grossman, Paul Geffrey, Justin Robinson, Marco Tamburini, Dado Moroni, Gegè Telesforo, Barbara Casini, Joyce Yuille, Dario Deidda, Alfonso Deidda, Francesco Cafiso, Max Ionata, Chiara Civello, Rossana Casale, Sandro Gibellini, Paolo Birro, Giovanni Mazzarino, Seby Burgio, Marco Panascia, Pietro Ciancaglini, Andrea Beneventano, Nello Toscano, Peppe Arezzo , Alberto Fidone;
