Pro Pal demonstrate in Venice: the Ghetto is closed off

Wide participation in the pro-Palestine demonstration which took place in the early afternoon of Sunday 23 June in Venice. Banners and slogans “Free Palestine” accompanied the participants who arrived from all over the Veneto,

The procession was organized by the Young Palestinians of Veneto.

Starting from the Calatrava bridge, it passed through the foundations of the station, Strada Nuova up to Rialto.

Present were representatives of all the organizations involved in defending the freedom of Palestine from social centers to student collectives (Morion, Lisc, Rivolta, Sumud, the environmental activists of Extinction Rebellion).

«War is not just bombs, but also the erasure of a people, of a history, the censorship of all those who think differently and the killing of 151 journalists. A genocide does not happen, it is planned”, reiterated the demonstrators under the RAI headquarters, in Campo San Geremia.

Three hundred in Venice shout: “Free Palestine”

There was no shortage of references to the university. «Let’s not forget the injustices, let’s distance ourselves from the Eurocentric project developed by the IUAV for reconstruction. The Iuav project does not build peace but colonies, there cannot be peace without justice”, shouted the students of the permanent assembly, which in recent days has returned to occupy the Tolentini area, raising the banner “Iuav, neutrals = accomplices”. The Ca’ Foscari people have reiterated, once again, the request for the resignation of the rector Tiziana Lippiello from the scientific committee of Med’Or, an arm of Leonardo Spa.

Since the procession would have passed near the ghetto, all entrances were sealed off by the police to avoid tensions, which did not occur.

The procession thus crossed Cannaregio carrying flags, music and demands for peace.
