“Without his hand Udinese would not have been saved”

Roberto Boscaglia, Lorenzo Lucca’s coach at the time of Palermo, spoke on Radio Bruno to talk about his former player now at Udinese: “The year in which he arrived in the first team at Palermo, Lucca had played very little in the Primavera: he had also played in Turin and Brescia, without however managing to leave his mark. When I arrived in Palermo, I saw him in retreat and he made a very important impression on me. I started to include him in the first games, but in a short time he earned ownership: His characteristics are singular, in that season he scored many goals and blossomed. The following year he was sold to Pisa in Serie B, and then we all know how it went at Ajax where he found little space. The boy is very strong physically, but he also has great technique and is fast, especially long. He has clear ideas and has always been convinced that he wanted to make it big, since he was very young. He has never been afraid of anyone, he has no problems interacting with stronger players, and I think this characteristic of him has helped him. He’s a very particular type: he has the right arrogance especially to be an attacker, sportingly speaking. He still has some improvement to do but he shows great results in a championship like in Serie A. He is not a guy who suffers from people. One thing that suffers a lot is that he needs to play continuously, not only for his mental condition but also for his size. If this doesn’t happen he may encounter some difficulties along the season. He knows how to play with his back to goal, make assists, and we exploited him above all for his skills, on which we worked so hard in Palermo with great results. If you look carefully at the goal that saved Udinese against Frosinone, he had a hand in it, without his great work I don’t know if it would have happened like this. His technique is remarkable when compared to his size. He plays alone but precisely because of this ability he also pairs well with a second striker.”
