The redemption of the past and the desire for the future: the best companies in Central Friuli

Best Performer is increasingly missing, the project that the Nord Est Multimedia group, which also publishes the Messaggero Veneto, has decided to undertake with the collaboration of ItalyPost. The meeting with the best companies from Central Friuli will be held on Thursday at 5pm, in the Egidio Feruglio Council Room in Piazza Indipendenza 1, in Feletto Umberto. To participate, simply register on the site www.eventinem.it.

Friuli has its own peculiar history, including an economic one, and it is the history of a territory that has been able to evolve and grow, recovering the gap it suffered compared to other regions, becoming, together with Veneto, the “engine” of the country. Friuli has always been a story of redemption.

And, even today, the connection between the land and its fruits remains, the legacy of a long agricultural economy, and other activities, particularly manufacturing, making the most of an also ancient vocation, the artisan one, which later became industrial, which characterizes the region. This is to say that in the list of Best Perfomer, i.e. the 100 excellent companies in Central Friuli, we find multinationals and family businesses, born 50, 60, 70 years ago, who have overcome countless challenges, who have been able to grow, evolve, innovate and compete. Alongside some large companies – including one which, again, brings us back to the economic history of the area, and therefore also to cooperation – which have made notable leaps in size.

To these excellent companies, the Nord Est Multimedia group, publisher of Messaggero Veneto and 6 other newspapers in the North East, in collaboration with ItalyPostdedicates an event that has the ambition to talk about these companies, and above all to have them talk about the methods and strategies that have enabled them to be engines of growth and development of the territory.

«The investments – underlines Piero Petrucco, president of Confindustria Udine – have produced a transformed local production fabric: more innovative, resilient and sustainable. And it is interesting to note how, analyzing the various sectors, approximately 80% of the companies in the ranking belong to those identified by the so-called “Smart Specialization Strategy” (S3) of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This strategy was created with the aim of maximizing the impact of investments in research, technological development and innovation, in line with the specializations of the individual territories”.

Furthermore, these companies «represent the backbone of the country and specifically of the North East, and many of them are the so-called “pocket multinationals” – Petrucco again – and central Friuli hosts many of these “pocket multinationals” with their territorial supply chains. Made in Italy and the flexibility of the Italian industrial fabric represents a unique phenomenon and is mainly identified with our manufacturing, precisely the one represented by these companies. Our territories, therefore, are not a limit, but a competitive advantage. The local ecosystem, with its skills and values, qualifies as an actor of development.”

In the ranking of Best companies, as mentioned, we find some medium-large sized companies, many medium-sized ones, and many small ones. Multinationals and family businesses coexist that preside over «a territory – dChiara Luca Cristoforetti, general director of CiviBank – who represents the heart of CiviBank, in which we are deeply rooted, as demonstrated by the presence of many of our branches.” A closeness that translates into «attention to the needs of companies, in support in their investment and growth paths, as demonstrated by our new industrial plan which provides for a significant expansion of credit concessions, but also services, such as the Foreign Desk to assist them in exports”.

From the past to the future, in a complicated context like the current one, the Best Companies are called to act anyway, for example face ever new challenges, equipping ourselves to compete. And if yesterday, recalling history, the availability of human resources was rarely a problem, today it is one of the crucial factors, destined to become increasingly so. «Attracting and retaining talent – considers Cristoforetti – is a crucial issue, because I believe that what binds issues such as competition and uncertainty are people. It is in them that we need to invest, focusing on training, but also on the quality of life in companies.”

«There is a demographic aspect – notes Paolo Ermano, economist, professor at the University of Udine – which is already evident and will worsen, but there is also an aspect of attractiveness. For example, the best performing companies could start an incremental path for salaries, thus raising the well-being of the area. In addition to this, a systemic action can be imagined: possibly coordinated by trade associations, companies could invest in the area to make it more attractive, for example through the creation of services that make conciliation easier, while the public sector could allocate a portion of investments to make this region a possible choice for those arriving from other territories or other countries.”
