Two precious seasons for the Teatro Verdi of Trieste

Eight titles for the 2024-2025 opera season and as many more For that symphony, thanks also to the collaboration with the Society of Concerts of Trieste.
The Verdì theater in Trieste presented its flagships for the next musical seasons in the presence of the municipal councilor for theatres, Serena Tonel.
For the new opera season we will see highly popular works such as Traviata and Rigoletto but also the return of Wagner and a title probably never performed in the city, such as Bernstein’s Candide, an example of twentieth-century repertoire. Also arriving on the stage of the opera house will be the great young voices of Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Anastasia Bartoli, Roman Burdenko and Jessica Pratt, making her debut in Trieste, and the batons of absolute reference on individual repertoires, such as Ivan Ciampa for the Puccini triptych, Enrico Calesso for Der Fliegende Holländer and Daniel Oren for Rigoletto; directors of great solidity such as Arnoud Bernard or Henning Brockhaus, with the confirmation for him of a Donizetti title for the second consecutive year, or the directorial debut of the choreographer Renato Zanella which will close the season,

The opera season will inaugurate on November 8th with the most popular and cinematic of Verdi’s titles, The Traviata, in the new production for Verdi by French director Arnoud Bernard. On the podium for this title is Stabile’s musical director, Enrico Calesso, who has made it one of his strong points on the many European stages where he regularly conducts. The cast is led by an absolutely experienced Violetta, the forty-eight-year-old Neapolitan Maria Grazia Schiavo, a reference voice for conductors such as Muti and Dantone and an important presence on the best stages, from Salzburg to La Scala. With her the young Alfredo by Antonio Poli, one of the most esteemed tenors of the new generation. The new year will instead open in January with Die Entführung aus dem Serail of Mozart in the new staging signed by the director, set designer and costume designer Ivan Stefanutti with the return to the podium of Beatrice Venezi. In February we will continue with Puccini triptych Tabarro, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi in the new, first staging in collaboration with the prestigious Teatro Comunale of Bologna..

Finally, a great twentieth-century closure in June with the Candide by Leonard Bernstein, with the opera director debut of the choreographer Renato Zanella and the established director Kevin Rhodes on the podium.

There will be an appointment with the ballet in December with the Don Quixoteby Ludwig Minkus, with libretto and choreography by Marius Petipa with 1900 modifications by Alexander Gorky.

The opera season will be preceded and accompanied by the symphony season which will open on September 15th for the first time in collaboration with the FVG Orchestra and Choir of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This year’s Verdi symphony season will see the first two non-subscription events as part of the New Trieste Festival “Il Faro della musica” in collaboration with La Società dei Concerti. This year too the program will range from the great German tradition to the less frequented twentieth century for a total of 8 concerts. Great closing together with the choir with Puccini’s Mass for four voices and orchestra to crown his centenary.

Also arriving in this case are musicians of international prestige: among the directors from the Verdi podium will be Giovanni Sollima, Will Humburg, Hans Graf, Jordi Bernacer, as well as the permanent director Enrico Calesso, and among the artists the violinists will perform Sergej Krilov and Stefan Milenkovich, the cellist Ettore Pagani and the pianist Nikolai Lugansky.
