The road closed in 2022 due to a landslide and then reopened last May from 7am to 11pm

«An institutional discussion with the newly elected mayor and with the Regional Council that will be appointed by governor Bardi is important», thus, Biagio Salerno, president of the Maratea Tourist Consortium on the situation of the state road 18 Castrocucco Maratea, reopened to traffic after the closure due of the 2022 landslide.

The proposal
Salerno also relaunches the proposal for a new regional Department of Tourism. On state road 18, reopened to traffic from last May 31st until next September 30th, from 7 am to 11 pm, Salerno’s position is clear and was already reiterated on the occasion of a meeting called by the newly elected mayor of Maratea Cesare Albanese. Among Salerno’s requests to Anas, there is, in particular, “the extension of an extra hour and a half of reopening”, to avoid a repeat of last year’s situation, when the road was reopened to traffic for the summer with the same timetable as this year. «The extension of opening hours would allow tourist and economic operators to look at the upcoming tourist season with more optimism, saving their companies. Tourism businesses have already closed the 2023 season in the red”, highlights the president of the Maratea Tourist Consortium. He also lets it be known that the Tourist Consortium chaired by him is committed to supporting the new mayor of Maratea, Cesare Albanese, elected last 8 and 9 June, in a series of actions.

Focus on tourism
For Salerno there is a need to make a change in the management of tourism and in the planning of interventions, in particular overcoming «the current fragmentation of competences between the President of the Council and councilors for Productive Activities, Infrastructure and the Environment which has had a negative impact in the past”. Hence, the proposal to establish a Regional Department of Tourism.
