Benevento, Tari, “frozen” tax: now the test in the Chamber

It’s not the clean cut that Benevento taxpayers have been dreaming of for some time, but a tax that doesn’t go up is still something to rejoice about. Even if the “duty” in question is the infamous waste tax which for years has placed the Sanni capital at the top of the national rankings for expenditure charged to families and commercial activities. But the continuing negative economic situation, with non-existent disposal plants and increased expenditure items due to the high cost of living, must make yet another freezing of the Tari also for the year 2024.

THE COST OF THE SERVICE

The tariff plan which will be presented to the City Council next Thursday for final approval reiterates the same amount of costs as a year ago: 16,050,047 euros. An amount that should not change next year either, since the one drawn up by the Finance Councilor Maria Carmela Serluca, in compliance with national provisions, is the tariff proposal for the two-year period 2024-2025. And to demonstrate how Benevento taxpayers could have fared decidedly worse is the decision issued in April by the Area Authority, with which the director Massimo Romito, applying the tariff method introduced by Arera, indicated the maximum limit at 18,075,832 euros up to which the Municipality of Benevento could have gone completely legitimately in quantifying the cost of the service. A good 2 million more, which divided among the approximately 20 thousand citizen taxpayers determine a potential saving of approximately 100 euros per user.

THE DETAIL

Indeed, residents and traders of Benevento will be able to benefit this year from a small reduction in the outlay to be made compared to what was paid in 2023. Filings rather than cuts, the result of some results obtained by the Municipality in the fight against tax evasion which has led to an increase in audience of taxpayers, consequently reducing charges. As regards domestic utilities (taking a 100 square meter apartment as a reference), the savings amount to a few euros, and grow depending on the size of the family unit. They range from singles who will pay 251.22 euros this year compared to 252.96 euros a year ago, to extra-large families (6 members or more) who see the amount due drop to 604.37 euros, compared to 607.06 euros of 2023. Basically, a coffee or little more. Downward adjustments also for commercial activities. A 100 square meter shop or artisan workshop will pay on average 1.4 percent less than twelve months ago. Share that determines different results when lowered into individual product categories. The Tari-taxed par excellence remain the traders in the fruit and vegetable – fish and flower sectors, who, despite taking note of the 53 euros less requested this year, still remain at the top of the ranking with 3,645.80 euros (per 100 square metres). In the second row for disbursement are the street vendors in the food sector, forced to pay 3,262.30 euros but relieved of at least 44 euros. The owners of restaurants, pizzerias and pubs will try to console themselves with the drop below the psychological threshold of 3 thousand euros: in fact they are now being charged 2,986.03 euros compared to 3,028.16 euros a year ago. The tax due to bars and pastry shops also remains consistent with 2,307.23 euros, despite the 32 euros saved this year. Supermarkets and food shops will be able to complete the procedure with 1,732.59 euros compared to 1,757.76 euros a year ago, but it must be considered that this type of business often has surfaces well larger than the standard 100 square metres. Newsagents, pharmacists and tobacconists will save 13 euros (946.53 euros per 100 square metres), hairdressers just over 15 euros (1,121.50 euros), car repair shops 18 euros (1,268.51 euros), while the rare remaining artisans will be able at least remove from the expenses the 14 euros less asked of them this year (1,009.51 euros) to dispose of waste.
