Baroque embroidery on air with “In his image”

Lecce protagonist today at 4pm on Rai Uno. The Salento capital will be at the center of the historic “In his image” program which visits the spiritual and artistic wonders of the Bel Paese. In the broadcast by Gianni Epifani and Laura Misiti, of which Maria Luisa Rinaldi is the author and directed by Andrea Scheneider, Lecce reveals itself with ArtWork and with the activity of LeccEcclesiae, a project that allows tourist enjoyment all year round, every day of much of the historical, artistic and cultural heritage owned by the diocese, present in the historic center.

The common thread

Elegant, refined, embroidered, almost in the light: Lecce, one of the Italian Baroque capitals, presents itself this way to tourists and this is how it will present itself today to the millions of viewers who will follow the program this afternoon. The common thread is Sant’Oronzo, protector of the city. Television filming took place in April. In those days the presenter Lorena Bianchetti was welcomed into the cathedral by Archbishop Michele Seccia. «I always return to Lecce with great pleasure – confided the journalist – because it is a place of light, in various aspects, not only material with these stones, with these buildings and monuments that make it unique with all its baroque lace, but there it is a truly beautiful light of spirituality and humanity. An enveloping welcome and so I’m really happy to be here and I’m enjoying these days completely.”

Path

The presenter, under the guidance of Giovanni Colonna, will begin her journey from Porta Napoli to subsequently admire the embroidery carved into the stone of the extraordinary Basilica of Santa Croce where a relic of the wood of the crucifixion is kept. You will then go to the cathedral and the bell tower to talk, among other things, together with the president of ArtWork Paolo Babbo, about the recent installation of the modern panoramic lift. With Francesco Sgueglia Mariano you will stop in Piazza Sant’Oronzo where, a few months ago, the copy of the statue of the saint returned to the top of the column. The correspondent Paolo Balduzzi will visit the workshop of the master Mario Di Donfrancesco to talk about the art of papier-mâché. The art of ceramics in a pop key will be treated with Oronzo Urso’s medallions. Pizzica will be played and danced in the setting of Palazzo Vernazza. You will not miss the stop at the Roman theater behind the church of the Poor Clares, together with Pietro Copani of the regional directorate of the museums of Puglia. Francesca Pagano will tell the story of the Easter lamb and the almond paste fish made with a 300-year-old recipe, on display together with frize, pasticciotto, Fruttoni and Negramaro wine. The journey will end in Piazza Duomo, with Lele Spedicato, guitarist of Negramaro, accompanied by his wife Clio Evans.
