Luckily no accident occurred and no one was injured: just a big scare and a lot of fear, but nothing more.

The episode, in particular, occurred – in fact – in the hours preceding the match between the Azzurri and the Red Furies, which then ended with Spain’s success with a goal to nil: Calafiori’s own goal in the first minutes of the second half. One of the buses heading to the Veltins Arena was forced to stop right in the center of the motorway, following a sudden illness of the driver. No footballers on board, only employees and guests. In fact, the team had arrived a few steps from the stadium in the meantime.

As the Football Federation announced, An ambulance quickly arrived on site. The medics provided first aid to the author who was taken ill, while the police – the German and Italian ones following the delegation – regulated motorway traffic, avoiding possible collisions with other vehicles. A lot of fear for the people on board the vehicle, but no damage. The team, however, in fact did not notice anything, having continued their march towards the stadium, the scene of Schalke 04’s home matches.

Once aid has been provided to the driver and any possible negative consequences have been averted, the bus then continued its journey and all the members of the delegation were able to take their places inside the stadium. From where they witnessed the lackluster performance of the Azzurri, deservedly defeated by Spain in a match where Spalletti’s Italy, in fact, never had a shot on goal. An uninspiring experience, but at least free from dangers unlike the palpitations experienced in the pre-race on board the bus.
