He shot his wife and killed her, then waited for the police to arrive. He had a tragedy around half past midnight in a house in Arezzo on Viale Giotto.
The 80-year-old man said he had shot his wife because he was worn out by the serious illness of the woman, a 72-year-old who had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for some time and whom her husband would have struggled to look after. He himself called for help.
118 ambulances and the state police arrived on site. The eighty-year-old was taken to the police station in Arezzo in shock. The weapon used in the murder was duly reported. The elderly man called the neighbors to say that he had shot his wife then waited in silence for help and the police to arrive. Last night’s murder in Arezzo was a murder of desperation. Alessandro Sacchi, 80 years old, killed his wife Serenella Mugnai, 72, who was very ill. As reported by the woman who served in the house, the man looked after his wife alone, the couple has no children who could have contributed to the care, and in recent months the 80-year-old had seemed very distressed by his wife’s illness, suffering from Alzheimer’s. Last night, around half past midnight, the man grabbed a regularly owned 7.65 caliber pistol, as he himself later told the police, and killed his wife. The White Cross ambulance and ambulance intervened on site but there was nothing left to do for the 72-year-old. The investigations are entrusted to the state police and coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Marco Dioni. The man was arrested and is now in the Arezzo police headquarters.
