Calabria and Vietnam meet: new opportunities for cooperation

There Vice President of the Calabria Region, Giusi Princirepresenting President Occhiuto, received theAmbassador of Vietnam to Italy, Duong Hai Hungwith a delegation and the Economic Consultant Dang Phuong Thi Thao, at the Citadel.

There Vice President Princi said she was very honored to welcome theAmbassador on his first visit to beautiful Calabria. He expressed his belief that the various sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, tourism, food and wine, culture and new technologies, constitute an excellent basis for starting trade exchanges between Vietnam and the Calabria. Princi underlined how the regional government, led by Roberto Occhiutobelieve strongly in potential of Calabriawith his 800 kilometers of coastline, three National Parks and five Marine Parks.

Duong Hai Hung he replied that he was very happy to be able to listen to the proposals of the representatives of the Calabria Region. You also underlined how the Italian Government is significantly strengthening relations with the Vietnam, considered a strategic partner. Vietnam’s goal is to develop a system of international collaboration with the Italian regions, including the Calabria in these projects.

The discussion between theVietnamese Ambassador and the Calabrian Vice President touched on important topics, identifying mutual needs and opportunities. Among the proposals that emerged, it was decided to focus on the creation of tourist packages that include Calabria as a destinationvalorising the recent regional investments in transport and air linksthe.

There Vice President Princi he specified that the objective is to welcome tourists from Vietnam to Calabria, offering them the opportunity to experience and appreciate the beautiful villages of the region, contributing to their repopulation.

L’Ambassador Duong Hai Hung underlined the potential of Vietnam, with a young population and a growing middle class, as a gateway for Italian companies to the Asian market. He then underlined that he has a system of free trade agreements, aimed at facilitating the development of collaborations, particularly in sectors where Italy represents excellence, such as agriculture and fashion.

The Ambassador also highlighted the visa exemption for Italian passports for 45 days as an incentive for Calabrian tourism, defining Calabria a beautiful destination to focus on.

With a view to future collaborations, it was decided to establish dates to materialize the projects discussed, also considering the new international role of Vice President Princi, recently elected to the European Parliament. The meeting ended with a mutual exchange of gifts, including a vase made by a Vietnamese artist, destined for the Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, which houses the famous Riace Bronzes.
