Hematology, donation to the Day Hospital from Rotary Arezzo and Ail

Ten prints to embellish and make the wait for treatments and visits to the Hematology Day Hospital more comfortable. They are the ones that Rotary Club Arezzo and Ail Aretina donated to the department directed by Dr. Ubaldo Occhini. A donation that takes place on the occasion of the National Day dedicated to the treatment of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma which is celebrated on June 21st.

Every day the Arezzo hematology department treats more than 30 people suffering from this type of oncohaematological pathology, both in hospitalization and in day hospital. Inpatient ward and Day Hospital which were recently renovated by the hospital management and furnished with funding from the AIL Federico Luzzi of Arezzo. A total of nine single rooms for ordinary hospitalization, with television and refrigerator, alongside the Day Hospital consisting of an admission room, 2 rooms with beds and a room with armchairs, 3 clinics and service rooms.

«In addition to the quality of care implemented by all the medical and nursing staff – explains Dr. Ubaldo Occhini, director of Hematology and Day Hospital – it was necessary to improve the reception of haematological oncology patients so that they could find a serene and pleasant environment, as beautiful as possible with comfortable armchairs, spaces and adequate staff. And it is precisely in this direction that the donation of the paintings made by Rotary and AIL and which were positioned in the DH corridor goes. My heartfelt thanks from me and my collaborators go to them.”

«Haematological oncology patients have an average long life expectancy of several years – continues Dr. Eyes – but also the treatments often take years, especially for leukemia and myeloma. Many hematological patients become chronically ill and for these patients Hematology becomes a place where they often come, almost a second home and as such it must be welcoming. Naturally, all this must be accompanied by the competence and kindness of the staff, without which the work environment would just be an empty box.”

«As the Arezzo Rotary Club we have chosen to donate something special to the department with the aim of animating the walls of the department and the spirit of the patients – explains Marco Genalti, president of the Arezzo Rotary Club -: they are prints of artistic photos with a marine theme created by his wife of one of our partners. Our hope is that they can cheer the spirit of those who watch them. In addition to these prints, as Rotary Club Arezzo we donate to Hematology a sum of money that we have collected from our members and which the managers of the Department will decide how to use according to need”.

«Since 2009 we have been working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of haematological patients in Arezzo and its province in memory of Federico – says Francesca Luzzi, AIL Arezzo secretary -. With medical and psychological home care and with the complete renovation of the ward and day hospital we try every day to make the illness more bearable.”
