PALERMO – An agreement scheme to entrust road reclamation after accidents. The Palermo city council approves by majority the resolution which provides for the concession of the service which has already been carried out by private individuals in the city for some years.
In short, it is about those who intervene after a road accident to restore safety conditions and allow normal circulation to resume. In fact, a collision involving one or more vehicles can lead to the presence of debris, liquids, fuel, cargo or damage to road signs, electricity poles or walls.
Hence the need for someone who, quickly, carry out a cleanup. The service will be at zero cost for the municipality of Palermo, given that the company that wins it after the tender will be able to claim compensation from those responsible for the damage. The contract will be three-yearly and, based on the data referring to the previous period, it could be worth up to 4.5 million euros.
The conditions set out in the agreement scheme are precise: the winning company will have to intervene within half an hour of the call (45 minutes if at night or on holidays), activate an operations center and ensure the cleaning of the road surface.
The resolution presented by the offices of councilor Totò Orlando it was approved by a majority with 20 yes and 11 abstentions. “The novelty – comments the councilor – is that the reclamation does not only concern the roads but also common assets such as traffic lights or guard rail and is part of an overall management of road safety and maintenance”.
