The task to carry out the autopsy examination on the bodies of Mariam and Samah Zaouali, mother and daughter, will be given on Tuesday 25 June. who died last June 13 following the serious burns suffered in the fire that Wajdi Zaouali, son and brother of the victims set fire to the house in Piazza Unità in Vittoria while his family was inside.
The hypotheses of crime under consideration
The medical examiner Giuseppe Algieri will be the expert appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office and who will probably operate on the same Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile, the offended party Zaouali family has appointed a lawyer, the lawyer Italo Alia, while Wajdi, who is in prison in precautionary custody, is officially defended by the lawyer Giovanni Ascone. The crimes committed against Wajdi are arson, murder, attempted murder aggravated by family ties, cruelty, frivolous motives, and having acted in circumstances that hinder private defence. The father and younger sister are still in a reserved prognosis, while another sister escaped the fire because she was working outside the region and returned to Vittoria, hosted by friends.
At the moment it is not known whether the parties will appoint consultants to support the prosecutor’s expert.
