Palermo and Sicily: more FlixBus connections for the summer

With the arrival of summer, FlixBus strengthens connections with Palermo and all of Sicily, where particular attention is paid to seaside locations and places of historical-cultural interest. This reflects the company’s desire to facilitate knowledge of the area by supporting a more environmentally friendly approach to travel, based on the use of collective means of transport.

There are around 40 Italian cities that FlixBus connects with Palermo: throughout the summer, the Sicilian capital will be reachable from centers such as Rome (up to four times a week) and Milan, Turin, Bologna and Florence (up to seven times) with night routes which will allow you to optimize times. Connections with Calabria will also be expanded: Lamezia Terme and Cosenza will be connected up to 14 times a week, while Villa San Giovanni, connected up to 32 times a week, will offer itself as an interchange hub for those who want to reach Palermo from many other cities of the Peninsula.

With the strengthening of summer connections, the number of cities in Sicily that can be reached on board the green buses rises to around 20: by guaranteeing connections also with the hinterland, FlixBus intends to facilitate people’s movements also towards places less easily reachable from other regions and, at the same time , contribute to the deconcentration of tourist flows and the promotion of internal areas, which the public debate has recognized as possible development hubs for more sustainable lifestyles.

«We believe that an efficient and widespread collective mobility offer can best combine the need for sustainability with that of cost-effectiveness, as well as contributing to creating opportunities for the tourism development of the area“, he has declared Andrea Incondi, Managing Director of FlixBus Italia. «Also for this summer, in addition to increasing the frequency of connections on the most well-known and popular national routes, we wanted to enhance lesser-known locations in our beautiful country. The variety of our heritage is a priceless wealth, and we believe it is essential to facilitate access even to less frequented centres. In this way we can contribute to highlighting the particularities of the territory by encouraging environmentally friendly forms of travel, with the possibility of generating income for local economies and encouraging an approach to the discovery of places that can also benefit the destination communities“, he added Incondi.

Tickets can be booked from the website and the free FlixBus app, as well as from physical retailers throughout Italy.

How to reconcile sustainability and cost-effectiveness? The bus as a possible solution

If we consider the emission factors in Europe, a personal car produces on average 166 grams of CO2 per passenger per km, while a FlixBus bus is characterized by an average emission factor of only 27.8 grams of CO2 per passenger per km, more than 5 times lower.

By preferring the bus to the car, those who travel will be able to reduce their impact at a limited expense. The benefits of this approach to the choice of medium, which combines the needs of sustainability and cost-effectiveness, can be seen above all in the long term: in 2023, those who preferred FlixBus and FlixTrain to other solutions in the over 40 countries where the company operates made it possible to save over 1 million tons of CO2of which 152,000 in Italy alone.
