ARZACHENA. An attempted scam put a woman from Arzachena in danger. The episode recalls the one that happened to a woman from Olbia last May 29th, which unfortunately was successful >.
A few days ago, at lunchtime, the home phone of an eighty-year-old who lives alone in the historic center of the Emerald municipality rang. The person on the other end of the line says he is the marshal of Porto Cervo and talks about a serious accident involving the woman’s daughter, responsible for the serious injury of other people. For this reason the man orders the lady to immediately recover a large quantity of money and precious objects in order to promptly take out insurance to avoid worse trouble for her daughter.
After a few minutes someone rings the bell at the lady’s house to request the money. The old woman opens the door and closes it immediately when she realizes that the person in front of her is neither a public official nor a recommendable individual. Fortunately, no one manages to enter the house. At the same time, the person posing as a marshal remains on the phone, continuing to boast of risks and dangers in the event of failure to deliver the money, preventing the woman from calling her daughter.
After a few excited and panicked moments, the lady decides to leave the house to seek help, risking finding herself faced with the unfortunate person who tried to break into the house. However, she manages to reach the headquarters of a nearby business, where she is given help and allowed to communicate with her daughter who immediately joins her.
The fact, which fortunately did not have serious consequences other than the great scare for the elderly woman, once again highlights the problem of safety in the Arzachena area. In fact, other people have reported the same scam attempt carried out against elderly people over the last few weeks. The police and also the mayor Roberto Ragnedda were informed of the affair.
