Padua, 21 June 2024 – “She passed away prematurely last night Vera Slepoj”. He reports it on social media the mayor of Padua, Sergio Giordani. The well-known psychologist and writer was 70 years old: a fatal illness caused the woman to be found lifeless in her home. “A loss – she underlines – not only for the scientific community (Slepoj was president of the Italian Federation of Psychologists) but also for the city, where she, originally from Portogruaro, had chosen to live after graduating from our University”.

Vera Slepoj was also well known for her interventions, always very interesting and never banal in newspapers and on television; his attention towards the community was expressed, about twenty years ago, also through the assignment of Councilor for Culture, Museums and Social Services of the Province of Padua: “We will miss his enthusiasm and friendliness, as well as his ability to deal clearly and informatively with important topics such as emotional relationships and other complex ones social problems”, concludes the mayor of Padua.

Political activity and scientific commitment

After being nominated for National Alliance in 1999 at European elections, where she was not elected despite the approximately seven thousand preferences received, in 2006 she was candidate for the Senate from the UDC. Among the various activities carried out, Slepoj was a psychotherapist of Palermo football team in the years 1999-2000 and teacher at the University of Siena for the teaching of Health Sociology, she was also president of the International Health Observatory. He also served as advisor to the Volunteering Authority in the period 2000-2004 and as advisor to the Minister of Communications from 2002 to 2006.

The controversy against Sailor Moon

In 1997 Vera Splepoj became famous for a controversy against the famous Sailor Moon cartoon: the psychotherapist claimed that the fifth series would be capable of seriously compromising the sexual identity of male children. The accusation was based on the report of some parents, whose sons, passionate about the cartoon, would come to identify with the protagonist. Subsequently the controversy also concerned the presence of the Sailor Starlights. These, in fact, in the anime adaptation, are boys who during combat can transform into Sailor warriors (with a transformation sequence that shows their change from male to female). As a result of the controversy she caused, the Sailor Moon series, already heavily adapted by Mediasethas been even more modified: both on video, with conspicuous still images and re-editing of scenes, and above all in the dialogues.
