“We hope that Minister Lollobrigida will immediately sign the long-awaited decree that makes the emergency measures executive, in order to ensure that Sicilian agricultural, livestock, wine, fruit and vegetable and citrus businesses and cooperatives have the possibility of surviving an emergency that is the most serious crisis of the last 50 years, with estimated losses reaching up to an average of 50% of the entire production in the various territories, as the regional council itself has put in black and white”.
This was said by the president of Fedagripesca Sicilia Nino Accept, who explains: “The resolution with which the regional council requests recognition for Sicily of the exceptional circumstances that have brought our agriculture to its knees represents a first, concrete step in the direction from us to first indicated and subsequently requested by several parties. Now, however, it is necessary for the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida to sign the decree recognizing the exceptional circumstances very quickly”.
The Delegate for agricultural issues of Confcooperative Sicily Alessandro Chiarelli expresses satisfaction “for the close discussion with the Regional Department of Agriculture, which resulted in the drafting of the document with which the Manager Dario Cartabellotta set out in a timely and pertinent manner the request formally addressed by the council governed by President Renato Schifani to the National Government”.
“Our requests have been fully accepted, shared and decreed by the regional government to which we acknowledge the desire to identify, together with those who represent local businesses, an effective solution – Accept and Chiarelli comment – but the game is not yet closed and it is, now even more than before, a race against time.”
