The provincial command of Catania, as part of initiatives for the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the corps, has set up a permanent exhibition in its headquarters in Piazza San Francesco di Paola in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts. There are two periods that intertwine: Art and Legality, giving life to a visual narrative between photography and graphics of education in civic sense and respect for the public good, for the enjoyment of community and collective interest based on beauty and legality . Prefect Maria Carmela Librizzi cut the inauguration ribbon.
The initiative is among the many promoted by the Etna provincial command aimed at keeping alive the tradition and ideals of a police force at the service of the community. The commander, General Antonino Raimondo, recently had the restoration of the bas-reliefs of the entrance door of the Majorana barracks, inaugurated in August 1937, which follows that of the marble plaque with the names of the Sicilian financiers or those serving in the island fallen in the performance of their duties during the First World War.
The permanent exhibition, present in special areas of the Etna provincial command barracks, has 28 large panels with photos and graphics, created by students and teachers of the Photography and Design for Publishing courses. The authors have focused their work on the theme of social equity and economic legality, they have created a historical-cultural narrative path capable of showing, in a dynamic way, the activity of the Catania and Sicilian Guardia di Finanza, of yesterday and today, always involved in the territory, at sea and in the airspace. 20 teachers and students from the Academy of Fine Arts actively participated in the executive phase of the project, which lasted approximately three months. The permanent exhibition will also allow visitors to appreciate the faithful reproduction of two architectural models depicting the Angelo Majorana barracks in 1934 and 1937, in 1/50 scale, made and donated by Lieutenant Aristide Riccardo Catto, now retired.
