Teramo, UNITE joins the “Future at the center” project

“Futuro al Central”: eight universities from Central Italy together for a shared valorisation strategy. It’s the first time this has happened. The universities of Abruzzo, Marche and Umbria join the project.

The “Futuro al Centro” project was presented on June 21st in Rome, which sees eight universities in Central Italy united for the first time, with the aim of responding to young students seeking prospects of professional and human fulfillment.

This is a joint valorization initiative, promoted by the University of L’Aquila, the University of Camerino, the University “G. d’Annunzio” Chieti-Pescara, from the University of Macerata, from the University of Perugia, from the Polytechnic University of Marche, from the University of Teramo, from the University of Urbino Carlo Bo and presented by the respective Magnificent Rectors and General Directors to illustrate the training offer, sharing resources and know-how.

An opportunity to highlight the thousand possible opportunities, including international projects, experiences abroad, services and benefits, activities linked to the territory, post-graduate courses and numerous relationships with the world of organizations and businesses .
“Futuro al Centro” is therefore a concrete opportunity to come into contact with universities that have always demonstrated great attractiveness over the years. Demonstration of what they are but also an integral part of territories suitable for students. “Growing up” in Abruzzo, Marche and Umbria means “living” among modern cities, historic centers steeped in art, seaside resorts and natural landscapes, with excellent living conditions and job opportunities that can be achieved, contributing to the development of this part of Italy characterized by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
The first stage of this journey will be a shared communication and promotion campaign on a national scale, not only in the University Regions but also in Milan, Turin, Rome and Naples.

Rectors’ Statements

University of L’Aquila / Rector Edoardo Alesse
“Futuro al Centro, as well as a precise space-time definition, is the testimony of a strong commitment that the Universities of Abruzzo, Marche and Umbria want to offer to students of these and other territories to guarantee a quality future. The operational tools of this project will be the coordinated valorisation of the extremely broad and high-quality training offering and the definition of integrated research and third mission strategies. We are three contiguous territories, a vast area that shares history, fragility, needs but also academic and productive excellence, which for some time have been collaborating effectively with an eye to the well-being of future generations and the protection and sustainable development of the territory, as well as every conflict and competition. In short, a Future at the Center, beautiful, shared and accessible to anyone.”

Polytechnic University of Marche / Rector Gian Luca Gregori
“In the title of this project there are the key words to describe its mission: future and Centre. The one linked to the future is a theme that we often face – states Prof. Gian Luca Gregori, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Marche – and we think that it can be built starting from our territory, creating opportunities for study, work and also being a factor essential for well-being and quality of life. This is why we believe in strong collaboration between the universities of central Italy: cooperation, and not competition, between universities is the future. And it is not just the academic world that is involved, with “Futuro al Centro” it is the whole community that is activated by making the different skills present interact with each other so that they are increasingly transdisciplinary and capable of providing answers to the complexity of the present”.

University of Camerino / Rector Graziano Leoni
“The University of Camerino – states the Rector Graziano Leoni – has always believed that working in synergy and together for a common goal was the winning strategy. This is why we immediately joined the project with enthusiasm in the belief that sharing skills and good practices can bring significant benefits to each university community”.

University of Teramo / Rector Dino Mastrocola
“Futuro al Centro – declares the Rector of the University of Teramo Dino Mastrocola – represents the added value of a network logic. A model that our eight universities have already successfully experimented with in the research sector with the Vitality project in the context of Innovation Ecosystems and which will now be extended to teaching and the third mission. I also believe that this systemic network can counteract the risk of marginalization for small universities, such as the Teramo one, which are irreplaceable cultural centers for the internal areas which represent a historical, environmental and landscape value common to the three regions”.

University of Perugia / Rector Maurizio Oliviero
“It is with great enthusiasm that we officially announce the birth of the “Futuro al Centro” project. This is an unprecedented initiative, which represents a concrete and shared response to the needs of students looking for real training and career opportunities, but also for a high quality of life. For the first time, several prestigious universities combine their resources and skills, overcoming the traditional dynamics of competition to promote an excellent educational offer under a common brand. Our objective is twofold: to enhance the participating universities and the territories that host them. Umbria, Abruzzo and Marche are, in fact, not only places of study, but also of work and life. Studying, working and living in these regions means not only receiving a high-quality education in a context characterized by high liveability, but also having the opportunity to work in an economic fabric deeply linked to the territory and characterized by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, even highly specialized ones, which can offer significant professional opportunities. We are convinced that “Futuro al Centro” is not just a project, but a real movement towards a shared future, where the universities of Central Italy can continue to work together to offer young people a better education, life and opportunities. United, we can really make a difference.”

University of Macerata / Rector John Mc Court
“Together we are stronger and more attractive. By combining our resources and skills, we will reach a wider audience to talk about an academic world that combines cutting-edge education with the livability of our cities and the individual attention that, as small-sized universities, we offer to students. As the University of Macerata we bring a long and recognized experience and specialization in the fields of legal, humanistic, social, pedagogical and economic sciences together with a strong attention, in research and teaching, towards the themes, among many, of new technologies, inclusion and sustainability”.

“Gabriele d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara / Rector Liborio Stuppia
“By participating in this project, it confirms and strengthens its vocation of strong territorial roots and great openness to the sensitivities of young people interested in a solid university path at an international level, being able to choose to do so with the right attention to the quality of their lives”.

University of Urbino Carlo Bo / Rector Giorgio Calcagnini
“Choosing to study at universities in Central Italy means not only immersing yourself in an academic reality of excellence, but also living in an area rich in history, culture and natural beauty.
The University of Urbino Carlo Bo is committed every day to providing its students with a stimulating and inclusive environment, where innovation and tradition meet to offer a complete and high-level education.
In this context, the HAMU network presents itself as a hub between the universities participating in the Italian Erasmus program for student mobility across the national territory. The Universities have joined this Program through an agreement, promoting and supporting the mutual exchange of male and female students enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or single-cycle master’s degrees.
The objective is to build innovative study paths that promote interdisciplinarity and flexibility of the training offer. This initiative aims to create an integrated space for Italian university education, pooling national resources to enrich study plans with additional and complementary training activities compared to those proposed by individual universities”.
