Closing in style for the 60th edition of the Pesaro International Film Festival thanks to a special prize, the presence of Luca Guadagnino, many internationally renowned guests and the eagerly awaited moment of the awards ceremony.
The morning of Saturday 22 June opens in the usual spaces of Gradari Palace from 10.00 am, with two very great guests of the Exhibition, Brigid McCaffreydirector and photographer from Los Angeles to whom the festival dedicated a particular focus and, to follow, Júlio Bressanedirector among the major exponents of contemporary Brazilian cinema, on the international jury and at the Mostra with three films, returning to the Festival after 56 years.
At the Experimental Theatre, from 3.30pm it will be possible to immerse yourself in McCaffrey’s cinema with screenings of Am/Pm, Sun Metal Shadow Signs, Paradaise Spring, Castaic Lake and Bad Mama, who cares. To follow, still in the Pasolini room, the last appointment with the tribute to Adriano Aprà with the projection of Olimpia to friends. The Sala Grande instead, starting from 3.00 pm, will be the scene of the screening of A flame in my heart by Alain Tanner with the French actress and member of the international jury Myriam Mézières and, at 5.30pm, the highly anticipated meeting moderated by director Pedro Armocida with Luca Guadagnino, in which the monograph will be presented, the first in the world dedicated to him, published in the series New cinema by Marsilio, edited by Simone Emiliani and Cecilia Ermini, Specters of desire. It will then be screened for the section Italian short debuts the short directed by Valerio Pisano and Luca Grimaldi, Sunshadows, in the presence of the directors. The afternoon at Cinema Astra, from 3.30 pm, will see the final essay in the presence of the young Balkan students of the project Novi Bioskop Sarajevo in collaboration with Pesaro Italian Capital of Culture and, from 5.30 pm, screenings in collaboration with the Busan Cinema Centerwith See the love by Jung Eun-joo, Homo Hundred Ballet by Son Jung-mi e Picnic by Kim Yong-gyun.
In the evening, however, there is room for the last and crackling event in the Square. After welcoming the great protagonists throughout the festival, Piazza del Popolo will be the place dedicated to the awards, with a ritual ceremony, and will host Luca Guadagnino which will be rewarded with the Pesaro Nuovo Cinema 60 Award before presenting his latest work to the public Challengersgreat success with audiences and critics.
The subversive, bewitching, revolutionary and completely deconstructed and deconstructing force of the new waves finds its home in Pesaro in the Mostra del Nuovo Cinema – declared Guadagnino on the Award – Receiving the Sixtieth Edition award of a revolution that is constant and continues to break the grids and cages suffocating the imaginary is naturally an immense honor. Cinema is political, the Masters of the Nouvelle Vague taught us and therefore I take this as a beautiful political reward for my experience as a filmmaker who has never stopped looking and desiring the perspective that has always been at the center of the interest of the New Cinema of Pesaro.
The spotlight also goes out on The enchanted sail – Cinema on the beach organized with the collaboration of Experimental Center of Cinematography Foundation – National Film Libraryevocative location of the 35mm tributes to Mastroianni and Chiari with the screening, at 9.30pm, of The Sunday Woman by Luigi Comencini.
