Over 3 thousand services provided in Sassari by Emergency

For years Emergency has been protecting the right to health of foreign citizens, migrants, people in conditions of fragility and poverty, it is in fact limited by bureaucratic barriers, linguistic and economic which, together with administrative complexities, represent real obstacles to accessing care.

Last year, 3,364 socio-health services were provided in the two clinics in Sassari and 889 people were supported, equally divided between Italians and foreigners.

The over 3 thousand services are divided as follows: 1,760 cultural mediation and socio-health orientation services; 1,243 nursing services and 361 general medical services. The clinics also provide information on how to manage chronic therapies and organize individual or group health education courses.

The two Emergency facilities are located in the Santa Maria di Pisa neighborhood and in via Monte Grappa. They guarantee free healthcare services and socio-health guidance to Italian and foreign citizens in difficulty.

The clinics are part of Programma Italia, the project with which Emergency has been offering care services in the country since 2006 to indigent and needy people who are often excluded from the National Health Service.

Sara Chessa, coordinator of the fixed clinic in Sassari, explains: «We manage to reach different users. We take care of poor migrants and foreigners who are unable to have a GP and register with the National Health Service. We offer general medical and nursing visits and socio-health orientation to include them in public health. We are also able to reach Italians in a state of need which we have seen increase over the years. For example, elderly people who do not receive a response from their GP, are unable to book a visit or are unable to pay a healthcare copayment. They need help because without adequate support they would not be treated.”
