Mutilated laborer, CISL Latina: “Satnam Singh’s death is a murder”

Latina, 30 June 2024 – “Satnam Singh, the Indian laborer, who was the victim of a very serious accident at work on an agricultural company in the Pontine area, has died (read here), remained mutilated due to the loss of an arm and abandoned on the street. The failure to provide timely assistance made the hospitalization at the San Camillo hospital in Rome in vain.” Thus, in a note from the CISL of Latina. “We sympathize with the pain of the worker’s family for this gruesome episode – comments the general secretary of CISL Latina Roberto Cecere – and today we will be present with the Fai in front of the Prefecture of Latina with a garrison.

What happened in recent days cannot be classified as an accident at work – continues Cecere – but we must have the courage to call it by its name: a real murder of a young worker abandoned to his fate. We are struck by the brutality of the failure to provide aid that could have saved Satnam Singh’s life. Unfortunately, once again, the behavior of a few unscrupulous individuals, it stains the sacrifice of the entire territory which is committed daily to respecting the rules and human dignity. Accidents and deaths at work represent a real war bulletin, an unsustainable situation that must involve all the institutions and trade unions that represent workers”.

“We firmly condemn what happened in the Pontine countryside,” comments the FA CISL general secretary Islam Kotbeepisodes of this type, in addition to arousing our firm indignation, they must push us to monitor more carefully what is happening in our province”.

“It is clear that a concrete and effective strategic plan is urgently needed by all institutions, more economic but above all human resources are needed for widespread control over the territory, to ensure compliance with the rules relating to safety and quality of work – concludes Roberto Cecere -. The good part of the community that represents the vast majority must be indignant and react by making your voice heard so that these tragic episodes are not repeated, for this reason we will support the demonstration of the Indian community of Lazio on 25 June 2024 which will be held in front of the Prefecture of Latina where we will loudly ask for immediate intervention not only to shed light on the sad story but above all to finally take the field with concrete and effective actions”.
