Disturbance is coming to Veneto: intense phenomena expected, risk of flooding

The Decentralized Functional Center of the Civil Protection of Veneto has issued a new notice indicating the yellow hydrogeological criticality (state of attention) for thunderstorms in all the Veneto basins from 2.00 pm tomorrow Friday 21 June until 3.00 am on Saturday 22 June.

After a few days of stable weather, which led to an increase in temperatures and humidity in the lower layers, during Friday 21st the approach and transit of a disturbance from the west is expected to lead to an increase in instability, which will also be marked between late afternoon and evening. From the central hours of tomorrow, the probability of predominantly showers and thunderstorms will increase, with phenomena of strong intensity (heavy showers, strong gusts of wind, locally large hailstorms). the most significant phenomena are expected between late afternoon and evening on Friday, finishing in the very early hours of Saturday 22nd.

During the storms expected starting tomorrow afternoon, the following are expected: possible triggering of superficial landslides and rapid flows; possible increase in the levels of the secondary hydrographic network; regurgitation of rainwater disposal systems with possible flooding of underground rooms and/or underpasses. The scenario, during the expected storms, will be characterized by intense and rapidly evolving phenomena.

The state of attention due to yellow hydraulic criticality in the Adige basins is also confirmed due to the persistence of high levels along the entire length of the river and due to specific critical issues affecting the embankment body downstream of Badia Polesine.

ASSESSMENT OF GROUND EFFECTS:
The YELLOW hydraulic criticality refers to the Adige river due to the persistence of sustained levels along the entire river and for the specific criticalities that affect
the embankment body downstream of Badia Polesine.
On the occasion of the storms expected starting from the afternoon of tomorrow 21 June, from 2pm, the following are expected: possible triggering of superficial landslides and
rapid casting; possible increase in the levels of the secondary hydrographic network; regurgitation of stormwater disposal systems with
possible flooding of underground rooms and/or underpasses. The scenario, during the expected storms, will be characterized by intense phenomena
and rapid evolution.
The yellow criticality for thunderstorms starts from 2pm tomorrow 21 June and is expected until 3am on Saturday 22 June 2024
