CATANZARO – The Calabria Regional Commander of the Financial Police, Gen. D. Gianluigi D’Alfonsoon 19 and 20 June welcomed a visit from Andrea Venegoni European Prosecutor for Italy, as part of a cycle of institutional meetings.
The visit, also carried out at the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria, was a fruitful meeting opportunity for Dr. Venegoni to illustrate the tasks of the new European Prosecutor’s Office (known as “EPPO”, European Public Prosecutor’s Office), operational since 1 June 2021, to which 23 of the 27 countries of the European Union have joined and which constitutes an important joint investigative structure established to protect the community budget against fraud, corruption and money laundering.
For these tasks, the collaboration of the Financial Police is fundamental, Economic-financial police which operates in all areas that fall within the spectrum of competences of the EPPO and which has among its main roles the supervision of national and community public spending, especially in the Calabrian territorial context where dangerous infiltrations of organized crime can occur in the management of huge public resources.
During the meetings, common strategies were therefore outlined for more effective collaboration on any proceedings and investigations by the Departments of the Calabrian Financial Police, which may fall under the jurisdiction of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
