Ariano Irpino prison: prisoner attacks and injures five prison officers
Crazy day of violence yesterday inside the Ariano Irpino prison, where an inmate lashed out at the prison police.
“The Agents were engaged in ordinary counting and typing operations in the II Section”explains Daniele Bosco, local secretary of the Autonomous Penitentiary Police Union,
“An annoyed inmate turned towards the staff and then barricaded himself in the cell.
It was therefore necessary to intervene by other Agents but as many as five colleagues were injured.
A day of absurd madness, also aggravated by the fact that the Basque Azzurri work in Ariano Irpino with a serious shortage of staff.”.
The indictment of Donato Capece, who is the general secretary of the Autonomous Penitentiary Police Union, is without appeal: “In my constant and continuous visits to the penitentiaries of Campania I have met and still meet the policemen who work there every day with great professionalism, a spirit of self-sacrifice, a sense of duty and of the institutions, with humanity”, explains, “despite the fact that a good part of the prisons are marked, more or less, by organic, organizational and internal security deficiencies, a consequence of failed regional management and coordination”.
For this reason, he highlights, “We need a complete reversal of direction in the management of regional prisons: we are at the mercy of these troublemakers, convinced that they are in a hotel where they can do what they don’t want and not in a prison!
We also appeal to regional and local political authorities: In prison there are not only prisoners, but there are humble servants of the State who currently feel abandoned by them Institutions”.
“The SAPPE expresses its closeness to the attacked colleagues”, Capece underlines, “but we are really at a loss: the inmates remain unpunished for their violent conduct and do what they feel like doing, without fearing any consequences.
Countermeasures are urgently needed to prevent violent acts against police officers.” concludes the trade unionist:
“the comatose state of penitentiaries does not favor the treatment of other users who respect the rules nor safety”
