A’explosion broke out on the evening of Wednesday 26 June following the fire that broke out at Newchem in via Roveggiain Verona, a company that deals with the production of chemical products for pharmaceutical causes. Four people were taken to hospital.
The alarm was raised by employees shortly before 8pm: the firefighters headed to the site with fire engines, ladder trucks, NBCR (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, Radiological) vehicles, for a total of 20 operators assisted by the officer on duty, who started the extinguishing operations.
The entire company was evacuated and the workers, just under twenty, were visited by the 118 health personnel, present with ambulances and medical vehicles. The four injured were taken to the hospitals of Borgo Trento and Borgo Roma, two in code yellow and two in code green: three for light burns and one for breathing in smoke.
The fire brigade teams immediately put out the flames and then began a thorough cleaning operation of all the ducts of the extraction system, which continued throughout the night.
The nearby Virgin gym was also evacuated because the ventilation system sucked smoke from the fire into the premises.
