«Growing economic power, will provide job opportunities»

Korean becomes a school subject in Bergamo. At the «Giovanni Falcone» linguistic high school, from September, the first school ever in Italy, there will be curricular teaching of Korean language and literature in a first class. The novelty was presented yesterday (19 June) in the main hall in via Dunant, in the presence of Consul General of Korea, Kang Hyung Shik.

«This is the third time I have visited Falcone high schoolstates the consul –. Today I would like to greet the manager, the authorities present, the students and parents, after having worked for three years in your beautiful country, I am ready to return to Korea with great satisfaction». And she added «special thanks to the students I expect they will be a bridge for the development of interactions between Korea and Italy. This year marks the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries.”

The head teacher will do the honours Gloria Farise with its staff: «South Korea – declares the principal – it has many points in common with Italy: it is a growing economic power and this will give our graduates great opportunities in the world of work. Our satisfaction is truly great and the school’s collaboration with the Bergamo area at an institutional level is fundamental, being oriented towards strengthening the bond with Korea”.

Among the audience were several students, with their families, ready to learn Korean from next school year. Various authorities also welcomed the consul: for the Municipality, Marzia Marchesi, who has already visited South Korea in an official capacity, as delegated by the MEP, then mayor Giorgio Gori. «Several years ago I was lucky enough to go with the delegation from the Municipality of Bergamo to Busan – said Marchesi -. Here we were able to establish drelations with the university of music, unfortunately interrupted by Covid, which we hope to be able to reconnect with the aim of arriving at a real twinning”.

The professor was present for the University of Bergamo Cristian Pallone, teacher of Japanese language and literature; for the Territorial School Office of Bergamo, the teacher Emanuela Facheris. The “Giovanni Falcone” linguistic high school in Bergamo, an ambassador school of the European Parliament, received the visit as part of a rich international project activated for some time with many countries, to respond to the excellence of the school curricula and the requests of its users.
