The Filcams campaign “Let’s Put Tourism Upside Down” arrives in Calabria

The national campaign of Filcams Cgil also comes to life in Calabria “Let’s turn tourism upside down” aimed at tourism workers with the aim of organizing and representing the condition of those who work in this sector.

The data and reality give us a situation in which, faced with the growth of the tertiary sector which drives the Italian economy for 70% of the GDP, the condition of those who work there has worsened exponentially in recent years.

The launch of the communication and information campaign will coincide with the initiative to be held in Parghelia, at the “La Pizzuta” village, Thursday 20 June starting from 5pm organized by Filcams Cgil Area Vasta whose General Secretary, Pinuccia Cusmano, will introduce the proceedings to conclude with the performance of Carlo Albè who will bring on stage his work “Born Without a Shirt”, inspired by the figure of Giuseppe Di Vittorio.

The TurismoSottoSopra camper will travel throughout the week between the various tourist locations and beach resorts and then ferry to Sicily.

In addition to the national one, like every year, Filcams Cgil Calabria will support its own specific communication campaign which this year is called “Damn” specifically addressed to young male and female migrant workers who often, due to a lack of knowledge of their rights, are exploited and mistreated; the contents of this campaign will be illustrated directly by the General Secretary, Giuseppe Valentino, at the conclusion of the Parghelia initiative.

“Our region, says Valentino, will never be able to take off and be welcoming, first and foremost to the Calabrians, if policies and investments in the tourism sector are not changed.

We have seen how politicians have not been able to make choices regarding beach concessions, a topic that has created confusion and discouragement among operators and among those who hope to be able to work with greater stability in the summer season to earn a living.

We hope for a change of pace starting from the willingness of local and regional institutions to discuss.”
