The fifth edition of the World Company Sport Games (World Company Sport Games) officially kicked off last night, under the aegis of Csain (Industrial Company Sports Centres). A magical evening was experienced in Catania by the almost 4 thousand athletes who, from today until Saturday, will compete in the 31 scheduled disciplines, 3 of which are Paralympic.
The inaugural ceremony was characterized by enthusiasm, the desire to have fun and treat oneself to unforgettable moments, combining sport and tourism, stimulating the desire for aggregation and great sharing in a global historical moment, unfortunately, marked by serious conflicts. The evocative parade gives the world an extraordinary glimpse as it passes from Porta Uzeda, Piazza Duomo to Piazza Università. The evening excites thanks also to the high quality show, presented by Ruggero Sardo and Vitaliana Ardito. From the cover the performances dedicated to the music of Carla Basile and Luca Pedullà, Le Trinity, Enjoychaotic, and the boys of the Liceo Coreutico Angelo Musco. Moments on stage that offered the colors of passion, joy and internationality, celebrating and exalting the values of peace and sociability with extraordinary impact. All seasoned with the splendid ending of Skin. High profile performances, accompanied by institutional moments. After Mayor Trantino’s greeting, the event was presented by the national president of Csain, Luigi Fortuna; the world vice president of the WFCS (World Federation for Company Sport) Umberto Ilardo; the president of the World Federation, Didier Besseire; the honorary president of Csain Giacomo Crosa. Also on stage, demonstrating the great team work carried out for the event, were the national vice president of Csain Salvo Spinella and the regional vice president of Coni, Enzo Falzone.
From this morning, beyond Catania, the World Cup will touch the municipalities of Acireale, Gravina, Sant’Agata Li Battiati, Linguaglossa, Mascalucia and San Giovanni La Punta. Tomorrow and Saturday the world championship trials will be held in Enna, Maletto and Siracusa. There are various open-air “locations”, some of which are decidedly suggestive and have a great impact.
Going into detail, Catania will host the athletics competitions on the track (Campo Scuola) and on the road (city circuit with start and finish in Piazza Università); badminton (PalaCatania), basketball (Leonardo da Vinci and Pala Zurria); 3×3 basketball (in the redeveloped square dedicated to Franco Battiato); beach volleyball (Capannine); Bowling (Bowling La Plaja), bridge (the Ciminiere which will also welcome participants in the world championship darts, chess and table football tournaments), 11-a-side football (Paratore stadium); 5-a-side football (Duca D’Aosta and XXXI Maggio); 7-a-side football (Leo Soccer and XXXI Maggio). Walking football will be played, however, at the City Catania Sports Club, where a padel tournament will be staged with 140 participants in the various categories. One of the main sports will be swimming (Nesima swimming pool).
Handball, in addition to being played at the Pala Nitta in Catania, will attract the attention of athletes at the PalaVolcan in Acireale (where the archery test will also be held) and at the Palazzetto di Mascalucia). Table tennis will be played at Pala Abramo. The petanque – which has 325 athletes among its members – will be played at the Villa Bellini in Catania). The shooting club will involve 60 enthusiasts from all over the world.
Volleyball will visit various facilities in Catania (Maria Ausiliatrice, PalaCus, PalaArcidiacono, Archimede, Dante Alighieri), Gravina and Sant’Agata Li Battiati and San Giovanni La Punta (PalaClan). Tennis will be played at Montekatira. The Pergusa racetrack will host the cycling races, an extraordinary combination confirmed by the president of the Consortium himself, Mario Sgrò. The mountain bike will instead be raced in Maletto, inside the Natural Park. Il Picciolo di Castiglione will be the splendid location for golf (the honorary president of Csain, Giacomo Crosa, will also be at the start, as announced by himself in the press conference). The orienteering, however, will take place in the splendid Ragabo pine forest (Linguaglossa) in the middle of the woods and in Syracuse, in the enchanting Ortigia starting from Piazza Minerva.
