Cia-Italian Farmers of Potenza and Matera promotes the collection of signatures (objective of 20 thousand members) to urge the immediate adoption of the extraordinary plan for the management and containment of fauna in the regional territory of Basilicata.

The aim of this initiative is to urge the Regional Institutions to intervene promptly to put a stop to this growing phenomenon which generates incalculable failures and increasingly widespread, recurring and impacting dangers on crops, plants, livestock, vehicles and people.

“A state of affairs such as the one we have been witnessing for years, now out of control both in terms of damage and in terms of the safety of citizens, without neglecting potential exposure on a health and hygienic level, is no longer tolerable”: this is what support the presidents of Cia Potenza Lorusso and Cia Matera Stasi who underline the urgency and non-deferrability of putting in place a concrete signal on the government side of a situation that is objectively a real emergency.

They add:

“We can no longer stand by like this many attacks and continuous invasions by herds that devastate crops and structures.

Furthermore, we cannot overlook the singular situation in the field of compensation which leads to increasingly large and expensive compensation payments and increasingly recurring disputes.

Enough procrastinating, it’s necessary put in place, as required by national provisions, concrete signals of containment programs in order to restore a state of ordinariness in our territorybringing the faunal pressure and available hunting territory back into balance is requested by the entire Lucanian community, it is a necessary act to give a future to Basilicata”.

Cia Potenza and Matera remind us that annual amounts of damage to agriculture have fluctuated in recent years between 14.6 and 18.7 million euroswith a annual average of over 17 million euros and only in Basilicata between 1.5 and 2 million euros per year to which add the damage caused by car accidents.

There long presence of wild boars even in Potenza, the continuous road accidents caused (They were more than 300 in a year), the constant alarm in inhabited centers testifies that the effort made with a few thousand wild boars killed so far is not enough.

We need to rebalance the population-wildlife-territory ratio as soon as possible and it can only be done intensifying hunting and harvesting activities of ungulates“.
