PESARO – Murder of ‘Ndrangheta, life sentence for Rocco Versace. The Pesaro assize court issued the sentence for the 58-year-old Calabrian accused of voluntary homicide aggravated by the fact of having facilitated a mafia-type organisation, the Calabrian Crea family, to which Girolamo Biagio, the victim’s brother, belonged before becoming collaborator of justice in 2003.
The case is that of the murder of Marcello Bruzzese, killed by a volley of bullets on 25 December 2018 in via Bovio, in the historic center of Pesaro.
A provisional amount of 50 thousand euros has been established for the wife, mother and children of the victim and 10 thousand euros for the brother and sisters who were made civil parties through Ada Odino and Grazia Iannarelli, replaced yesterday by Giulia Cometti.
For the prosecutor’s office, Versace’s role was that of having planned the murderexecuted materially by the 44 year old Francesco Candiloro and the 45 year old Michelangelo Tripodi, already sentenced to life imprisonment in summary judgment.
The district attorney of Ancona, Monica Garulli, noted at the end of the hearing: «The reasons for the sentence will have to be read, but this ruling confirms the validity of the investigative activities of the district attorney of Ancona. A very serious fact not only for the city of Pesaro, but also for the general implications that the event had, as it was a clear retaliation towards justice collaborators. In addition to this sentence, the other two competitors were sentenced in an abbreviated manner in Ancona.”
The defendant’s lawyers Francesco Albanese and Pasquale Loiacono promise to appeal. «For us there is no certain proof of the attribution to Versace of the Dutch utilities used in the carrying out of the murder phases. This is the technical point that has not been fully proven for us. We will read the reasons for the sentence, then we will appeal.”
