Farewell to Chicco Clerici: “You will also be missed at the Palio”

The Basilica of San Magno was packed yesterday morning for the funeral of Roberto “Chicco” Clerici, a leading figure in the world of the Palio, culture, associations and volunteering, who died suddenly on Friday at the age of 78. The dismayed community gathered in the place that hosted illustrious people, friends and acquaintances united in the memory of a man who leaves an unbridgeable void. Monsignor Angelo Cairati, who officiated the homily with Don Giuseppe Grampa, underlined with touching words the devastating loss for the community: “With him, a beacon for the social life of the city went out. He loved his noble district of San Magno , for which he held various positions. Now Chicco needs each of us to make a gesture of solidarity.”

His friend Diego Molaschi, visibly moved, read a memory: “When Chicco is no longer here it will be a disaster, we were saying, and now the disaster has arrived. You have been a backbone for all of us. A certainty that is always taken for granted. A example that has taught us a lot and that unites us.”

The famous cousin Antonella Clerici expressed her pain on social media: “I can’t believe that you are no longer here. Legnano and your beloved Palio will miss your joyful enthusiasm and your desire to always do new things. Rest in peace Chicco, beloved cousin”.
