Coldiretti Forlì-Cesena meets the Prefect: the urgency of dealing with the wild boar emergency highlighted

A delegation from Coldiretti Forlì-Cesena, composed of the President Massimiliano Bernabini and the Director Alessandro Corsini, was received by the Prefect of Forlì-Cesena Rinaldo Argentieri. The meeting was requested with the aim of delivering detailed documentation in support of Coldiretti’s national mobilization aimed at countering the emerging problem of the massive presence of wild boars in the area.

During the meeting, Coldiretti underlined how the uncontrolled presence of wildlife, in particular wild boars, represents an issue of primary importance and urgency, not only for farms, but for the entire community. The proliferation of these wild animals has caused considerable damage to agricultural crops, amounting to an estimated economic loss of 200 million euros per year on a national scale. Furthermore, it has been highlighted that the wild boar population has reached alarming figures, with over 2.3 million specimens throughout Italy, creating further concerns regarding the spread of African swine fever (ASF).

Massimiliano Bernabini, President of Coldiretti Forlì-Cesena, declared: “The proliferation of wild boars has become a critical issue that requires immediate interventions. The damage to agricultural crops is extensive, with fields devastated and crops destroyed. But beyond the economic damage, there is a serious public safety problem. Numerous road accidents, some of which are fatal, are caused by wild boars crossing urban and rural roads. This represents a constant threat to the entire community.”

Director Alessandro Corsini added: “Coldiretti is ready to collaborate from a technical point of view to implement extraordinary regional containment plans, which are essential to guarantee the safety of crops and livestock. We will not stop our mobilization until we obtain the necessary answers from the institutions.”

The Prefect said he was aware of the serious problems illustrated and of the strategies envisaged by the law for the control and containment of the species, to be implemented, if necessary, also through a further strengthening of the planning in progress and appreciated the proactive and collaborative spirit of Coldiretti towards the institutions, primarily the Region, in the search for the most effective solutions.
