I’m 14 i Common Puglia perfect for those who move around bicycle. And all 14 confirmed the yellow flag, the recognition of the Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation which evaluates and certifies the commitment of the Italian territories in promoting cycling as a model of sustainable mobility. There are eight new entries for 2024: Aosta, which marks the entry into the network of the Valle d’Aosta region, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Fiscaglia (FE), Russi (RA), Fossacesia (CH), Ispani (SA) and Soave (VR).

How does it work

The initiative was born with the aim of stimulating local administrations in the development of cycling mobility policies, accompanying them on this virtuous path. “FIAB-ComuniCiclabili” gives each territory a score from 1 to 5, assigned on the basis of an objective analysis of the many aspects that interact with the bicycle as a sustainable means of transport. Four areas of evaluation: urban mobility (urban cycle paths/infrastructures, traffic calming and speed), governance (urban mobility policies and services), communication and promotion, cycle tourism.

Comments

«We are closing this seventh edition of ComuniCiclabili with the satisfaction of having built a network of cohesive administrations in sharing the spirit and aims of the initiative – comments Alessandro Tursi, president of Fiab and creator of ComuniCiclabili –. Their renewed trust encourages us to continue with the usual professionalism, with rigorous evaluations that give value to the flags assigned, but always with the spirit of assisting and supporting the administrations engaged in a path of virtuous change”.

As Tursi further explains, another characteristic aspect of ComuniCiclabili is the training that accompanies every public moment and which ranges from the more strictly technical and regulatory aspects to the broader and more innovative ones. Following today’s online ceremony, today’s training moment was dedicated to the valorization of public space thanks to the contribution of Fiab vice-president Valeria Lorenzelli, author of “Placemaking. Creating lively, loved, attractive places”. «The city – explains Lorenzelli – is the place where we live, express our creativity and define our social identity. Placemaking, an innovative urban redevelopment practice, promotes open and fair public spaces and the book offers a multidisciplinary approach to create quality places, addressing professionals, citizens and administrators”.
