Archers tournament, the countdown starts

NEPI – After the great success of the first week of events, the historic Renaissance re-enactment of the Palio dei Borgia comes to life in Nepi, this year in its 28th edition which will continue, with shows, re-enactments and presentations, until the next 30 June.

The village, throughout this period, seems to experience a sort of dive into the past and even the settings of the town take visitors back to the flourishing era of the Renaissance, to the controversial figure of Lucrezia Borgia and to the perennial rivalry between the four Contrade of San Biagio, of La Rocca, Santa Maria and Santa Croce.

Organised, as usual, by the Ente Palio, with rector Simona Benedetti, it is hosted in various locations: from the Borgia Fort to the historic centre, from the town hall to the Cathedral.

The weekend of events will be preceded, tomorrow, by one of this year’s novelties, the “Borgiani Thursdays. Between art, music and tasting”: an evening dedicated to gustatory experiences, organized by the Ente Palio and hosted in the Cultural Center “L’Acquedotto”, with menus created following ancient Renaissance recipes and using the products of that historical era , even the wines themselves.

The tasting, by reservation, will be accompanied by readings from “The Pope’s Daughter” by Dario Fo, actors Carlo Altomonte and Ornella Marcucci, on the lute Paolo Antonini. Speech by the artist Rita Sargenti, with Adele Foffi on guitar.

Friday 21 June, in the town square, from 10pm “Harmonica. La Sfida”, competition of the Musicians of the 4 Contrade with the participation of the Flag-wavers of San Gemini and the historical group of the city of Montefalco.

On Saturday from 6pm, the “Popular Riot” will be staged in the Borgia Fort, a historical re-enactment of the breaking down of the city gate, while in the evening, in the church of San Pietro, the evocative concert of Renaissance and Baroque music by the Nsc ensemble of Nepi “On the streets of Tuscia. Sound journeys and encounters from Massenzio to Stradella”.

The week will end on Sunday starting from 5.30pm, with the long-awaited Archers’ Tournament valid for the awarding of the 2024 Palio, followed by the guided tour “The Places of Lucrezia” at 6pm, at 10pm at the Forte dei Borgia, the show “Alexander VI, Pope Rodrigo Borgia, Disonore or reason of state” theatrical show written and directed by Francesco Madonna.
