Mayor of Foggia for 10 years

Agostinacchio was mayor of Foggia for 10 years, almost at the end of his term political career, always held within the ranks of Italian far-right parties, from the Italian Social Movement to the National Alliance.

He was mayor of the city between 1995 and 2004 and during this period he was, for just one year, 1999, president of the Foggia football team while this played in Serie C2.

The one as mayor of Foggia was not Agostinacchio’s only experience in local politics. As often happened during the so-called First Republic, he had in fact started as a municipal councilor in Ascoli Satriano, its municipality of birth, in the 1960s, and then moved to the Foggia City Council in the 1970s.

Parliamentarian between MSI and AN

Agostinacchio’s first national experience was in 1983, when he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies among the ranks of the Italian Social Movement. He served for the entire ninth legislature, then being re-elected in the eleventh, in 1992, in the so-called “parliament of those under investigation“.

That legislature ended after just two years due to the scandal Tangentopoli, but Agostinacchio was re-elected in 1994, remaining in office until 1996 and also serving as president of the sixth Finance Commission.

Precisely during that legislature he joined the new party founded after the dissolution of the MSI, National Alliance, headed by Gianfranco Fini. However, he left AN in 2009 to join the La Destra movement. by Francesco Storace.

The condolence of politics

Several messages of condolence from political exponents of the Italian right, starting from the minister Raffaele Fitto: “With the passing of Paolo Agostinacchio, a part of the history of the Apulian right goes away, intransigent in its principlesbut dialoguing and open to new challenges” writes Fitto.

“A politician strongly linked to his city, with whom I have often and willingly collaborated. He will be missed in Foggia and all of us. Great closeness to his family” concludes the Minister for Cohesion Policies.

“With the passing of Paolo Agostinacchio, the Italian right loses an authoritative reference. The people of Puglia will remember him as the mayor of Foggia honest and scrupulous, passionate and punctual parliamentarian. I lose a friend with whom I shared many battles in the common ideal trench” he adds Nello MusumeciMinister for Civil Protection.
