Libera Calabria, «disapproval of differentiated autonomy»

CATANZARO «In recent days in the Chamber, Italians and Calabrians, in particular, have had to witness scenes never seen in republican history. First a shameful brawl involving around twenty deputies, including some from Calabria, and today, after the approval of the Calderoli bill, the waving of various flags, including that of our region, to celebrate autonomy. This probably confirms that the tricolor will no longer be sufficient to represent the many small states that this reform will determine.” He writes it Libera Calabria regional secretariat. «Calabrian parliamentarians who have demonstrated, once again, that they respond more to partisan and party interests, rather than to the real interests of the townspeople who voted for them. Already today, with current conditions, a Calabrian child receives one twentieth of that of one from the north. With differentiated autonomy there will be a further worsening, with devastating effects, in a highly compromised scenario such as the Calabrian one. A weakening also for the northern regions which will not be able to count on national solidarity, as the constitutional spirit of subsidiarity between the regions has been betrayed with this reform”, we read. «An appeal made by the Calabrian church went unheeded by those who, at times also referring to Christian values, were not at all concerned, in voting for this measure, about the inevitable increase in inequalities and poverty. Conditions which, obviously, favor the proliferation of the ‘Ndrangheta and the mafias in our region and in the entire country. The growth in spy crimes confirms that if effective social policies are lacking and the State does not provide adequate responses, it is often the mafias, with their substitute welfare, that represent the only alternative. Remembering that the aim must always be social justice, we are all called to a strong sense of responsibility to counter this measure with all possible democratic tools. In fact, we run the risk that legality without equality could further undermine social bonds and accentuate economic and social distances even further.”
