On the occasion of the 188th anniversary of the foundation of the Bersaglieri corps, the Agrigento section of the Association of Feathered Infantrymen organized a special celebration yesterday afternoon, 18 June, in the splendid setting of the botanical garden of Agrigento.
An array of members, under the command of the sectional vice president, ten. Angelo Gelo paid honors to the Fallen and a floral tribute was placed at the foot of the monument to the Bersagliere which was inaugurated, right inside the Garden, in 2019 on the occasion of the interregional gathering that was organized by the Agrigento section.
The celebration was attended by the mayor Franco Micciché, the prefect Filippo Romano, the commander of the Sicilian Army, general of division Maurizio Angelo Scardino, the provincial commander of the Carabinieri Col. Nicola De Tullio, the deputy commander of the Port Authority, Lieutenant Commander Giovanni Vindigni, Dr. Achille Contino representing the commissioner of the Free Consortium of Municipalities. After the tribute to the fallen, the message sent by the dean of the Bersaglieri in service, the army corps general Luciano Portolano from Agrigento, was read.
Greeting messages were brought by Mayor Micciché, by General Scardino who reiterated the traditions and tasks of the Bersaglieri, by Dr. Contino who on behalf of the Provincial Commissioner also placed emphasis on the Institution’s desire to enhance the botanical garden, and by the prefect who underlined the close relationship he has always had with the Bersaglieri, so much so that he was appointed honorary Bersagliere . The president of the Section Andrea de Castro gave him the membership card of the ANB Agrigento section. President de Castro himself then recalled the connection between the Bersaglieri and the territory of Agrigento and the activities carried out by the section directed by him. Finally, member Enza Genova read the Bersagliere’s prayer.
